Shakira begins 12-concert residency in Madrid
Colombian singer Shakira has launched a 12-concert residency in Madrid as part of her ‘Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran’ world tour. The opening performance at the Iberdrola Music venue drew approximately 50,000 to 55,000 fans, marking her first major return to Spanish stages in eight years.
The residency is designed as a large-scale cultural experience, featuring Macondo Park, a 220,000-square-meter temporary city inspired by the works of Gabriel García Márquez. This space includes themed areas for Latin gastronomy, fashion, literature, and art, alongside a museum dedicated to the singer’s career.
During the two-hour set, Shakira performed roughly 25 songs, spanning her three-decade career from early hits like ‘Antología’ to recent tracks such as ‘BZRP Music Sessions, Vol. 53’. The event has also had a notable economic impact, with reports indicating a significant increase in accommodation searches in Madrid for the residency dates. Local authorities have implemented special mobility plans, including reinforced metro services and shuttle buses, to manage the expected attendance of over 600,000 people throughout the four-week run ending October 11.
