Shanghai launches 100 AI-powered tourism service terminals
Shanghai has launched 100 AI-powered tourism service terminals across the city to assist the growing number of summer travelers. The terminals are operated by a dedicated AI agent named Hu Xiaoyou, which provides real-time translation, navigation, attraction recommendations, personalized itineraries, and ticket booking services.
The system utilizes a database of over 84,000 entries covering cultural activities, tourist attractions, and sporting events in Shanghai. It is integrated with 14,000 links for direct bookings and purchases. To accommodate international visitors, the terminals support 10 languages and accept payments in more than 120 different currencies.
Located in major hotels, tourist information centers, and commercial districts, the terminals will be supported by volunteers. Zhong Xiaomin, director of the Shanghai Municipal Administration of Culture and Tourism, stated that the service network will be progressively expanded throughout the city. Official data indicates that Shanghai saw 5.3 million foreign tourists in the first half of the year, representing a 27.82% increase compared to the previous year.
