Shardiya Navratri 2026 dates and religious significance

Shardiya Navratri 2026 is scheduled to begin on Sunday, October 11, following the conclusion of Pitru Paksha and the observance of Mahalaya on October 10. The nine-day festival, dedicated to the nine forms of Goddess Durga, will culminate with Vijayadashami (Dussehra) on October 20.

According to religious traditions, the day of the festival's commencement determines the deity's vehicle. Since Navratri 2026 begins on a Sunday, Goddess Durga is said to arrive on an elephant (Gaja), a sign traditionally associated with prosperity, abundant rainfall, and peace.

Key dates for the 2026 observance include Ghatasthapana on October 11, Durga Ashtami and Maha Navami on October 19, and the final celebration of Vijayadashami on October 20. Rituals such as Kalash Sthapana mark the formal start of the worship period.
