Sharjah infrastructure projects cause heavy traffic on Dubai routes

Commuters in the UAE are experiencing significant traffic disruptions due to ongoing infrastructure projects and maintenance in Sharjah. Major routes connecting Sharjah and Dubai, specifically the E11 (Al Ittihad Road) and E311 (Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road), have reported heavy congestion during rush hours. On the E11, substantial queues have been noted from Al Taawun and Sahara Centre toward Al Nahda, while the E311 has seen delays through the Sharjah industrial areas and Muwaileh.

The Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority has implemented several road closures and diversions to facilitate municipal maintenance and long-term development. These works include a total closure of a stretch parallel to the Al-Jazat district and ongoing diversions at the Sheikh Khalifa and Al-Maliha intersection.

These infrastructural changes are part of a broader regional transformation, including the integration of the Etihad Rail project. The development of heavy freight and passenger rail lines requires significant civil engineering adjustments, including road realignments and new bridge structures to accommodate the national railway network within existing urban grids.
