Shefali Bagga surrenders Rs 1.2 crore in Mahadev betting app case

Television presenter and former ‘Bigg Boss’ contestant Shefali Bagga has surrendered Rs 1.20 crore to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the Mahadev online betting app investigation.

According to the ED's latest chargesheet filed in a Raipur court, investigators allege Bagga received approximately Rs 1.5 crore to create promotional videos for the Mahadev betting syndicate. During a search of her Delhi residence in May, officials seized Rs 30 lakh in cash.

Bagga has stated that her involvement was limited to ‘unknowingly promoting a few brands’ on social media and that she was unaware the platform was operating illegally. She noted that she has cooperated with the investigation and has full faith in the law.

The Mahadev betting app is described as a large-scale illegal enterprise facilitating betting on sports such as cricket and football. The current chargesheet names 42 individuals, including Ebix Group chairman Vikas Garg, who was previously arrested in connection with the alleged laundering of proceeds from the syndicate.
