Sheffield police arrest seven on suspicion of murder after newborn's death

Seven people have been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a newborn baby girl in Sheffield, UK. South Yorkshire Police were called to a residence in the Wincobank district on Holywell Heights just before 6:00 am on Sunday, August 30, 2026, after receiving reports regarding the welfare of an infant.

Upon arrival, officers discovered the newborn girl, but despite resuscitation efforts by police and paramedics, she was pronounced dead at the scene. All seven suspects remain in police custody as detectives work to establish the circumstances of the death and the ages of some of those detained.
