Sheikh Ali al-Khatib returns from Iran and Iraq with pledges of aid for Lebanon

Sheikh Ali al-Khatib, Vice President of the Supreme Islamic Shia Council, has returned to Beirut following an eleven-day visit to Iran and Iraq. During the trip, al-Khatib participated in the 40th International Conference on Islamic Unity held in Tehran and Mashhad.

Al-Khatib held several high-level meetings, including discussions with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi. He briefed these officials on the current situation in Lebanon, specifically the suffering in the south due to ongoing Israeli military actions. Al-Khatib stated that officials in both Iran and Iraq expressed a full readiness to assist Lebanon across political, economic, and social sectors.

Upon his return, al-Khatib met with Iraqi parliamentary bloc leader Hammam Baqir al-Hamoudi to further discuss the Lebanese situation. He called for international intervention to stop the aggression and ensure the return of displaced Lebanese citizens to their homes. Additionally, he urged Lebanese authorities to restore full diplomatic relations with Iran and resume direct flights between Beirut and Tehran.
