Shein hit with over €22 million in French fines for consumer‑rights and transparency breaches
France’s competition, consumer and fraud‑prevention authority (DGCCRF) imposed two fines on fast‑fashion retailer Shein that together exceed €22 million. One penalty of €16.7 million addresses missing mandatory details in order‑confirmation emails, while a second €5.7 million fine relates to the company’s failure to honour the 14‑day right of withdrawal and to provide required environmental information on products.
The penalties are part of a broader enforcement campaign that has already brought total sanctions against Shein in France to more than €210 million. French officials say the measures target unfair competition and aim to protect consumer rights, transparency and sustainability in e‑commerce.
Shein is accused of omitting product traceability data, such as where garments are sewn and dyed, and of not disclosing the presence of micro‑plastics in some fabrics. The French minister for commerce emphasized that compliant retailers should not have to compete with platforms that disregard these rules.
