Sheinbaum Opens $2.7bn IMSS Hospital Project in Manzanillo, Mexico

Mexico’s president, Claudia Sheinbaum, and Colima Governor Indira Vizcaíno inaugurated the construction of a new IMSS Hospital of Specialties in Manzanillo. The ceremony highlighted the federal commitment to expanding health infrastructure in the state.

The hospital will be built with an investment of about 2.7 billion pesos, feature 285 beds (72 hospital beds and 213 non‑census beds) and offer 23 medical specialties. It is expected to serve more than 65,000 IMSS beneficiaries in the region.

Sheinbaum framed the project as part of broader spending under the “Fourth Transformation,” citing anti‑corruption successes that allow more resources for social programs and large‑scale works such as new bridges, road upgrades and the expansion of the Port of Manzanillo.
