Shemar Moore discusses transition to S.W.A.T. Exiles

Actor Shemar Moore has discussed the emotional transition of moving from the original S.W.A.T. series to the Starz spinoff, S.W.A.T. Exiles. After eight seasons with the original cast, Moore noted that saying goodbye to longtime colleagues was difficult, stating, “It’s hard to say goodbye. We spent eight years together.”

While Moore continues his role as Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson, the spinoff introduces a new ensemble cast including Ronen Rubinstein, Freddy Miyares, Zyra Gorecki, Adain Bradley, and Lucy Barrett. Some original cast members, such as Jay Harrington and Patrick St. Esprit, will reprise their roles.

The new series features a darker and grittier tone than its predecessor. Set after a two-year time jump, the story finds Hondo navigating personal hardships, including divorce and the death of his mother, following a failed mission. The plot follows Hondo as he is approached to rebuild S.W.A.T. with a new group of recruits while facing powerful forces attempting to make him fail.
