Starz S.W.A.T. Exiles series development
Overview
The Starz spin-off series ‘S.W.A.T. Exiles’ premiered on September 25, 2026, marking the return of Shemar Moore as Daniel ‘Hondo’ Harrelson. Developed by Jason Ning, the first season consists of ten episodes filmed primarily in Los Angeles and Santa Clarita, California.
Set two years after the conclusion of the original series, the narrative follows Hondo as he is pulled from a reclusive life to lead an experimental tactical unit of untested recruits. The plot explores Hondo’s personal hardships, including his divorce and the loss of his mother and mentor, following a botched mission that led to his forced retirement. As Hondo attempts to build cohesion within the squad—which includes characters such as Sammy Bishop, Ethan Cole, Cassidy Han, Jude Reddick, and Malik Henderson—he discovers that elements within the LAPD may be working to ensure the unit fails.
Following its United States debut, the series launched on Sky and WOW in other regions on October 9, 2026. Early reviews indicate that while Moore’s performance serves as a “strong anchor” for the production, the new ensemble cast is still “finding its footing.” Moore has noted that the series intends to preserve the history of the original show while offering a “grittier, evolved experience” for the audience.
