Shenzhen man hospitalized after consuming two-year-old instant noodles

A man in Shenzhen, China, was hospitalized in critical condition after consuming instant noodles that had been opened approximately two years prior. The individual, identified by the pseudonym Xiao Jia, experienced severe abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhea, and a fever of nearly 40 degrees Celsius shortly after eating.

Upon noticing his symptoms, his mother mistakenly believed he had a cold and administered an old medication from the family medicine cabinet, which failed to improve his condition. He was subsequently rushed to the Longhua District People's Hospital. Medical tests revealed that his liver enzymes had increased more than 10 times the normal level, indicating serious liver damage. Doctors identified mold toxins in the patient's samples as the cause of the illness.
