Shepherd Bushiri Organizes Buses to Repatriate Malawians Amid South Africa Xenophobia
Prophet Shepherd Bushiri mobilised ten buses to bring Malawian nationals back from South Africa as xenophobic attacks heightened fear among migrants. The vehicles, equipped with medical personnel, travelled from Johannesburg and Pietermaritzburg to Malawi, with support from the Malawian embassy and volunteers. Bushiri said a shortage of foreign currency makes it difficult to secure additional buses, and discussions are ongoing with banks and other stakeholders to expand the operation.
In a separate appearance at the Southern Region Press Club, Bushiri urged Malawian youth to pursue wealth through education, discipline and innovation rather than relying on charms or superstitious shortcuts. He framed prosperity as a battle of ideas and called for greater financial literacy, hard work and networking to drive the country’s economic future.
