Sher Bahadur Deuba calls for Nepali Congress unity ahead of November convention
Former Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has issued a seven-point appeal to party leaders and cadres, urging them to resolve internal disputes and unite for the party’s 15th general convention. Deuba, who has scheduled the convention for November 21–23, characterized a rival faction’s recent special general convention as illegal and in violation of the party’s statute and traditions.
Deuba argued that the rival group’s actions were premature, noting that the legality of their special convention is currently under review by the Supreme Court. He emphasized that proceeding with a separate convention before a judicial decision is politically and legally inappropriate. Deuba stated his intention to facilitate a legitimate leadership transition through the upcoming 15th convention, asserting that he holds no personal ambition for specific positions.
In his appeal, Deuba also called for national unity in the face of recent disasters, such as the Bhote Koshi floods, and urged the party to focus on governance, employment, and economic prosperity rather than internal disagreements.
