Shift Up AI Music Video for Stellar Blade: Blood Rain Draws Fan Backlash

South Korean developer Shift Up released an official music video titled “Wanna be in LOVE” featuring the sequel’s protagonist Evie on its YouTube channel on July 31. The video’s description and on‑screen notice state that the audio and visuals were altered or fully generated with generative AI, and the A.I. Labs logo appears at the end.

The video presents Evie as a K‑pop idol and includes a fabricated behind‑the‑scenes segment with a fake crew wearing Shift Up shirts. Viewers quickly identified visual artefacts – melting text, inconsistent facial features and low‑quality animation – and described the result as “AI slop” or “garbage”. The backlash spread across YouTube comments, Reddit threads and social‑media posts, with many fans questioning the studio’s reliance on AI for promotional material and fearing similar techniques could appear in the game itself.

Shift Up’s CEO Kim Hyung‑tae, a vocal proponent of generative AI, defended the approach as a productivity tool, citing the need for smaller studios to compete with larger developers. No release date for Stellar Blade: Blood Rain has been announced, and the controversy has become the dominant discussion surrounding the upcoming title.
