Shigeru Miyamoto says Mario movies drive new Nintendo games
In an interview with Famitsu, Nintendo veteran Shigeru Miyamoto explained that the inclusion of characters such as Yoshi and Fox McCloud in recent Mario films was deliberately coordinated with upcoming game releases. Two months after the premieres, Nintendo launched Yoshi and the Mysterious Book and a remake of Star Fox (known in Europe as Lylat Wars). Miyamoto also noted that Princess Peach’s personality in The Super Mario Bros. Movie was influenced by the development of the Princess Peach: Showtime game.
He emphasized that there is no fixed rule linking film character designs to game appearances; each case is handled individually, but Nintendo intends to maintain a close relationship between its movies and game projects.
