Miyazaki heavy rains cause fatal landslide in Nichinan

Heavy rainfall in southern Miyazaki Prefecture, Japan, has resulted in a fatal landslide. On the morning of September 19, a 98-year-old woman was found buried under debris after a cliff collapsed on her residential property in Nichinan City.

The intense rain, which occurred between September 18 and the early hours of September 19, prompted Level 4 landslide danger warnings in the area. In addition to the fatality, a woman in her 50s was hospitalized with injuries following a separate landslide at her home.

Local authorities reported significant flooding, including submerged vehicles and flooded construction warehouses. The heavy weather also disrupted transportation, causing service suspensions on parts of the JR Nichinan Line.
