Shikoku Electric Power employee death investigation

Overview

A 19-year-old employee of Shikoku Electric Power Transmission and Distribution died on September 9 after falling approximately 40 meters from a transmission tower in Kamikatsu, Tokushima Prefecture.

A suicide note left by the victim alleged severe power harassment by senior colleagues, including verbal abuse such as “you are incompetent,” “you are stupid,” and “just die.” The note also claimed the employee was forced to consume foods he was allergic to during company social gatherings and noted that colleagues failed to intervene during the abuse.

Following an internal investigation, the victim’s family expressed dissatisfaction with the company’s findings. In response, Shikoku Electric Power Transmission and Distribution announced plans to establish a third-party committee to conduct a more detailed investigation into the death and the allegations of harassment.
