Indian authorities dismantle multiple forgery and job fraud rackets

Law enforcement agencies in India have dismantled several high-value fraud and forgery operations involving the impersonation of government officials and the use of counterfeit documents.

In Mumbai, the Delhi Police Economic Offences Wing (EOW) arrested Kushal Samir Mehta for his alleged involvement in forgery cases exceeding ₹21 crore. Mehta reportedly used fake documents from central ministries, the Prime Minister’s Office, and the military to defraud businesses and attempt to illicitly obtain government payments totaling approximately ₹18.62 crore.

In Jammu and Kashmir, multiple arrests have been made regarding job and land scams. Abdul Majeed Mir was charged for allegedly collecting approximately ₹62 lakh by promising government jobs and land through forged appointment orders and by impersonating a Duty Officer attached to the Lieutenant Governor’s office.

Additionally, in the Budgam district, police arrested lawyer Jehangir Ahmad Dar and politician Firdous Nabi for allegedly running a fake recruitment module. The duo reportedly issued fraudulent letters, bearing fake signatures of the Union Home Secretary and the Director General of Police, to recruit Special Police Officers. In Shopian, another individual was arrested for posing as a government employee to defraud a family seeking cancer treatment assistance.
