Shopping tourism in the Netherlands attracts German consumers
German shoppers continue to frequent Dutch border towns like Venlo and Roermond for various retail advantages. In Venlo, consumers often seek out lower prices on coffee, as the Netherlands does not levy a coffee tax, and specific supermarket chains that cater to German customers with large-format products and Eastern European specialties.
In the Roermond Designer Outlet, which hosts approximately 200 international brands including Gucci, Nike, and Prada, German visitors account for roughly 55 percent of the customer base. The outlet recently expanded its offerings with the opening of the Cologne-based activewear brand OACE. The center also provides amenities such as dedicated play areas to accommodate families during shopping trips.
