Shraddha wins Group 3 Gimcrack Stakes at Randwick

Shraddha, a two-year-old filly trained by Michael Freedman, secured an authoritative victory in the Group 3 Keeneland Gimcrack Stakes (1000m) at Randwick. Ridden by jockey Tommy Berry, the $250,000 Magic Millions yearling purchase had to navigate a tight gap at the top of the straight to claim the win, beating runners I’m Admired and She’s Supreme.

Trainer Michael Freedman compared Shraddha’s performance and turn of foot to the previous winner, Manaal. Freedman noted his success with juvenile horses, having also prepared recent Golden Slipper winners. Following the race, Berry remarked that the filly hit the front at the 300-metre mark and appeared comfortable throughout her run.

In the colts' division, Freedman’s Capitano finished second to Flying Houdini in the Breeders’ Plate. The trainer indicated that Capitano may be given a spell before targeting the Magic Millions Classic.
