Shreveport faces prolonged triple-digit heat and drought risk

Shreveport and the surrounding Ark-La-Tex region are facing an extended period of extreme heat due to a persistent heat dome. Meteorologist Richard Lewelling predicts temperatures may remain at or above 100 degrees Fahrenheit for much of the next two weeks, potentially lasting until Labor Day.

In addition to high daytime temperatures, overnight lows are expected to remain in the upper 70s or lower 80s. This pattern is accompanied by increasing drought concerns, as Shreveport is currently three to four inches below its normal annual rainfall. Parts of Caddo Parish are already experiencing drought conditions, and the NOAA Climate Prediction Center has highlighted a rapid-onset drought risk across the Lower Mississippi Valley.
