Shreveport police investigate five weekend homicides

Shreveport experienced a violent weekend resulting in five homicides across four separate incidents.

A double homicide occurred just after midnight on Saturday in the Sunset Acres area near the intersection of Hearne Avenue and Sunnybrook Street. Following a vehicle crash into a building, surveillance footage captured a person in a second vehicle firing multiple shots into the crashed car. The victims, identified by the Caddo Coroner's Office as 31-year-old LaJames Smith and 26-year-old David Young, were pronounced dead at Ochsner LSU Health.

Other weekend fatalities included 21-year-old Jamarkus Fisher, who died from a gunshot wound following a fight at a gas station on Jewella Avenue, and 37-year-old Stemond Scott, who died from a stabbing in his home on Corbitt Street.

Shreveport Police Department spokesperson Chris Bordelon stated that investigators believe they are close to making arrests in the double homicide case and noted that multiple people may be involved. A 19-year-old man was taken into custody Tuesday but has since been released; his booking records included two counts of second-degree murder.
