Shusha Declaration 5th Anniversary Marked by International Conference in Azerbaijan
On June 15, 2026, the five‑year anniversary of the Shusha Declaration – a 2021 pact that elevated Turkey‑Azerbaijan ties to an alliance level – was commemorated in Shusha, Azerbaijan, with a conference titled “Regional Contribution to Global Security: Building Peace in the South Caucasus”. Organized by the New Azerbaijan Party, the event gathered officials and experts from Azerbaijan, Turkey and dozens of other states including Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Laos, Moldova, Cambodia, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Ukraine, Belarus, China, North Macedonia, Georgia, Serbia and others.
Turkish Parliamentary Friendship Group chairman Şamil Ayrım, Turkish ambassador to Baku Birol Akgün and AK Party officials addressed the gathering, emphasizing the declaration’s role in regional stability, economic cooperation and post‑conflict reconstruction. Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s office sent a message read by senior officials, underscoring the document’s strategic importance for South‑Caucasian security architecture.
In separate remarks, AK Party deputy chairman Kürşad Zorlu posted on social media praising the anniversary, calling for deeper brotherhood, announcing joint Turkey‑Azerbaijan work on a shared history book and reaffirming the “one‑nation” spirit linked to the Karabakh victory.
