Sibiu apartment explosion forces evacuation of 39 residents

An explosion occurred on the evening of 2 July in a fifth‑floor apartment on Afinelor Street in Sibiu, Romania. The blast did not trigger a fire, but emergency services were dispatched, including three fire‑truck units, a crane, a rescue vehicle and a SMURD ambulance team.

Fire personnel secured the building and evacuated all 39 occupants from the five‑storey block. No victims required medical treatment at the time, and investigators are working to determine the cause of the deflagration while checking the structure for safety risks.
