SIC and TVI compete for Portuguese television leadership

The Portuguese television market is experiencing intense competition between major broadcasters SIC and TVI, with recent data showing a near-tie in monthly audience share. Between September 1 and 18, both stations recorded an average share of 13.4%, though SIC maintains a marginal lead in absolute viewer numbers.

Daily performance varies significantly across different time slots. SIC has demonstrated strong dominance in news and entertainment, with programs like ‘Primeiro Jornal’ and ‘Destino Maior’ securing top rankings. Conversely, TVI has seen rapid growth driven by ‘Big Brother All Stars’, allowing the station to close the gap with SIC and occasionally outperform competitors in prime-time slots.

RTP1 remains a consistent third-place contender, holding a 10.0% share for the month. While SIC shows greater daily consistency, winning 11 of the first 18 days of September, TVI has achieved notable peaks in viewership during specific programming events.
