Sicily advances tax justice reforms and launches proximity justice offices
At a tax‑justice conference in Palermo, Anthony Barbagallo, the regional secretary of the PD and a member of Italy’s Chamber of Deputies, called for a uniform fiscal system in Sicily, reduced penalties for formal errors and easier installment plans for low‑income taxpayers. He highlighted disparities among municipal administrations, the burdens of poorly managed regional utilities, and the misuse of tax amnesties to delay payments.
The regional government also held the first meeting of a technical table for the “Uffici di prossimità – La giustizia più vicina ai cittadini” project. The forum, involving the Sicilian Region, the Ministry of Justice and organisations such as Formez PA, outlined the rollout of 30 proximity justice offices intended to improve citizens’ access to legal services across the island.
