Sicily allocates €10 million for 116117 health service infrastructure
The Regional Health Department of Sicily signed a decree allocating €10 million from the 2024 National Health Plan to fund the technological infrastructure needed for the 116117 non‑urgent medical care service. The money will be assigned to Arnas Civico of Palermo, which will oversee procurement, installation of hardware, software and furnishings for operational centres at the Civico hospital in Palermo and the Cannizzaro hospital in Catania.
Regional President Renato Schifani and Health Assessor Marcello Caruso said the investment is a key step toward launching the service, which is also intended to provide re‑employment opportunities for former Almaviva call‑centre workers through a preferential hiring amendment approved by the Sicilian Assembly.
