Sicily allocates 14,550 sports vouchers for low-income youth
The Sicilian Regional Government has announced the allocation of 14,550 sports vouchers for children and adolescents aged 6 to 16. The initiative, funded by a 6 million euro allocation from the regional stability law, provides 50 euros per month to support sports activities from September 1, 2026, to April 30, 2027.
To qualify, beneficiaries must belong to families with an ISEE (Equivalent Economic Situation Indicator) not exceeding 12,000 euros. The funds are intended to cover costs for courses and activities within amateur sports associations affiliated with the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI) and the Italian Paralympic Committee (CIP).
Regional President Renato Schifani stated the measure aims to promote health, social inclusion, and combat delinquency among economically vulnerable youth. Regional Assessor Elvira Amata described the program as a strategic tool for well-being. The distribution of vouchers is based on provincial population density, with Palermo receiving the highest number (3,804), followed by Catania (3,445), Messina (1,637), Agrigento (1,186), and Trapani (1,174).
