Sicily reinstates technical training and allocates 15 million euros for higher education
The Sicilian Region has announced several initiatives to bolster vocational training and technical education for young residents. After a ten-year hiatus, the region is reinstating one-year Higher Technical Education and Training (IFTS) courses. These post-diploma specialization paths are designed for individuals aged 18 to 25 and aim to provide certified skills recognized across Europe through a combination of classroom learning and company apprenticeships.
Additionally, the regional government has allocated 15 million euros from the FSE+ 2021-2027 fund to support Its Academy foundations. This funding is intended to drive digital transition and innovation through two- and three-year high-level technical and technological training programs. These courses are open to both employed and unemployed residents with a secondary school diploma, focusing on strategic economic sectors to improve employability and regional development.
