Sicily allocates 70,000 euros to support Lampedusa and Linosa students
The Sicilian Regional Government has allocated approximately 70,000 euros to fund two educational initiatives for the Luigi Pirandello Institute, serving Lampedusa and Linosa. The funding is intended to address the geographic isolation and disadvantages faced by students living on minor islands.
Specifically, 60,000 euros will support the ‘Più vicini, più cittadini’ (Closer, more citizens) project. This initiative aims to reduce travel costs and facilitate student participation in cultural and educational events outside the islands, such as the Turin Book Fair and the Giffoni Film Festival.
An additional 9,500 euros has been granted to continue a social innovation training program titled ‘Percorso di formazione dialogica di innovazione sociale di eccellenza della comunità di Lampedusa e Linosa: verso il Patto educativo di comunità’. Mimmo Turano, the regional assessor for education, stated that overcoming geographic isolation for students on minor islands is a priority for the Schifani administration.
