Sicily allocates €800,000 to fund school theatre projects

The Regional Government of Sicily announced a €800,000 funding programme for theatre education in schools, issued through the “Focus Teatro” circular of the Department of Education and Professional Training. The scheme, presented by Education Assessor Mimmo Turano, aims to promote student participation in theatre laboratories, live performances, festivals and cultural events, and to reduce inequalities in cultural access and school dropout rates.

Schools of any level located in Sicily may submit a single project proposal, with a maximum grant of €25,000 per project. Applications must be sent by certified email (PEC) by 30 June. The initiative is part of a broader strategy to modernise the Sicilian school system under the Schifani administration, linking traditional theatrical heritage with new technologies.
