Sicily allocates over €28 million for municipal lighting and €10 million for water projects

The Sicilian regional government approved the use of more than €28 million from the EU FESR Sicily 2021‑2027 programme to finance public‑lighting upgrades in the municipalities of Modica and Ragusa, as part of a wider list of eligible towns. The two communes requested €2.72 million and €3.47 million respectively, bringing the total applications to about €34.2 million, which exceeds the available allocation. The region said the evaluation will be completed within 60 days and may increase the funding pool to cover all admissible projects.

In a separate decree (D.D.G. n. 927, 17 June 2026), the region also approved water‑infrastructure projects in the Agrigento area, granting €7.92 million for the completion of Sciacca’s water network and over €2.6 million for upgrades in Campobello di Licata. Additional proposals, such as pipe replacements in Fico Granatelli, Giardina Gallotti and Raffadali, were deemed eligible but unfunded due to budget limits. Regional officials highlighted the expected reduction in losses, improved efficiency and greater resilience of the water supply system.
