Sicily allocates €28 million for municipal street‑lighting upgrades

The Sicilian Regional Assessorate of Energy and Public Services has approved a €28 million funding programme to modernise public‑lighting networks in municipalities across the island. The funds will support the adoption of energy‑saving technologies and are to be granted through public‑private partnership contracts under the EU‑co‑funded FESR Sicilia 2021‑2027 programme.  Assessor Francesco Colianni said, “We are accelerating the spending of EU funds to improve the services that local authorities provide to citizens.”

The eligible projects cover dozens of towns, including Catenanuova, Leonforte, Adrano, Trecastagni, Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto, Capo d’Orlando, Campobello di Mazara, Corleone, Modica, Ragusa, Palma di Montechiaro, Racalmuto and Ravanusa. The total amount requested by these municipalities reaches €34.2 million, exceeding the available budget. The region will review the applications and may seek additional resources; funding decisions and decree issuances are expected within the next 60 days.
