Sicily Approves 2027‑29 Regional Finance Plan, Projects Steady GDP Growth

The Sicilian regional government, led by President Renato Schifani, approved the Documento di Economia e Finanza (Defr) for 2027‑2029. The plan forecasts a 0.6 % rise in regional GDP for 2025 and anticipates a further increase of up to 1.7 % in both 2026 and 2027, despite a globally uncertain environment.

Employment is expected to grow by 1 % in 2025, outpacing the national average of 0.8 %. Public debt is slated to fall from €4.025 billion in 2025 to €2.193 billion in 2026, reflecting recent budget‑balancing measures. The region also reports a net increase of more than 6,000 enterprises at the end of 2025, raising the total stock to 463,772 firms and a growth rate of 1.34 %—among the highest in Italy.

The Defr outlines continued investment programmes and emphasizes the region’s aim to strengthen its productive capacity, attract businesses, and sustain stable development in the Mediterranean basin.
