Sicily earmarks over €850 k for Basilica restoration and gender‑based violence shelters

The Sicilian regional government approved a €350,000 allocation for the restoration of the Basilica of San Salvatore di Fitalia, part of a total €600,000 budget for the monument’s safety and conservation. The work includes high‑engineered lightning protection and will be carried out by Sgrò Restauri after a 16.37% discount contract award. Mayor Giuseppe Pizzolante emphasized that the project secures a historic community landmark.

Separately, the Department of Family and Social Policies announced a first tranche of €500,000 for 2026 to support anti‑gender‑based violence centres and secret‑address shelters across Sicily. Up to €20,000 can be granted to each eligible centre, with applications open from 1 September to 30 September. Assessor Nuccia Albano highlighted the funding as essential for the continuity and stability of services that protect women and children from violence.
