Sicily faces calls for structural aid amid climate and water crises

In Sicily, regional leaders and business associations are calling for structural solutions to address recurring environmental and resource crises. Conflavoro has proposed a series of measures to the Sicilian Regional Assembly to protect businesses from climate-related disruptions, such as fires, extreme heat, and water shortages. Key proposals include regional co-financing for insurance policies against business interruptions, tax incentives like a three-year IRAP exemption for new manufacturing firms, and 100% financing for solar energy and storage for small enterprises.

Simultaneously, a water emergency is affecting the Trapani and Erice areas. Regional deputy Cristina Ciminnisi has urged the Sicilian Region to intervene as local municipalities struggle to manage water contamination and quality issues. Residents in parts of Trapani and Erice have faced issues with turbid or unusable tap water for extended periods. Ciminnisi emphasized that the region must provide immediate support, potentially through Civil Protection, while structural solutions and the appointment of a new water manager are finalized.
