Sicily faces extreme heat with temperatures up to 40 °C
The Italian Air Force (Aeronautica Militare) issued a severe‑heat warning for Saturday, forecasting internal areas of Sicily to reach 39‑40 °C. The alert is part of a broader heat wave affecting much of Italy, with temperatures of 40‑42 °C expected in several regions through Sunday, 2 August. Authorities advise limiting outdoor activities during the hottest hours, staying hydrated, and protecting vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly and outdoor workers.
The Sicilian meteorological service also predicts the heat to persist over the weekend, with peaks of 38 °C in the western part of the island on Friday and up to 39 °C in the interior of the Enna and Catania provinces on Saturday. Isolated showers are possible in mountainous areas, but overall conditions remain hot and dry.
