Sicily health audit launched by Deputy Carlo Auteri on diagnostic equipment

Regional Deputy Carlo Auteri of the Christian Democratic party presented a parliamentary interrogation to the Sicilian Health Department, demanding a comprehensive review of diagnostic equipment used in private accredited and convened health centres across the island. The inquiry cites reports of outdated machines—some over twenty years old—and instances where patients received conflicting test results, prompting concerns about diagnostic accuracy.

Auteri’s request includes an extraordinary inspection of equipment age and efficiency, the introduction of minimum technological standards for accreditation, and an investigation into repeated examinations performed in public hospitals after prior tests in private centres. He warned that unchecked duplication could increase regional health costs and cause delays for patients, urging swift corrective action.
