Sicily holds commemorations for victims of Cosa Nostra

Various commemorations are being held in Sicily to honor victims of Cosa Nostra and promote the culture of legality.

In Agrigento, a solemn ceremony will take place on October 13, 2026, at the Church of Santa Croce to remember Pasquale Di Lorenzo. Di Lorenzo, a former chief superintendent of the Prison Police and recipient of the Gold Medal for Civil Merit, was assassinated in an ambush in Porto Empedocle on October 13, 1992. His death was part of a mafia strategy of retaliation against law enforcement during the implementation of the 41-bis prison regime.

In Palermo and Capaci, a series of events will run from October 6 to October 9 to mark the 40th anniversary of the death of Claudio Domino, an eleven-year-old killed by the mafia in 1986. The program includes 'Pupi Antimafia,' a puppet theater performance by Angelo Sicilia designed to teach younger generations about Domino's story. Other activities include book presentations and educational meetings at the Aula Bunker involving the Domino family and various civil institutions.
