Sicily launches 30 Proximity Justice Offices

On a morning in Palermo at the regional Assessorate of Family, Social Policies and Labour, officials held the first meeting of the technical table for the “Uffici di Prossimità” project, a Ministry of Justice initiative funded by POC/PO N Governance and CI 2014‑2020 and implemented with the operational support of Formez PA.

The plan will activate 30 offices in municipalities and unions of municipalities throughout Sicily. Each office will offer orientation, support and assistance for procedures such as administration of support, guardian authorisations, issuance of travel documents, appointment of special curators, child custody matters, and information on legal protection mechanisms that do not require a lawyer.

Regional Assessor Nuccia Albano, Ministry representative Roberta Bardi, Formez PA President Giovanni Anastasi and other regional directors highlighted that the offices aim to reduce geographic and social distance to justice. Albano said, "La giustizia … si qualifica come tale solo quando è accessibile," emphasizing the goal of improving efficiency, quality and public‑administration value across the Sicilian territory.
