Sicily launches free psychological support for 118 emergency responders
The Sicilian regional health authority signed a free-of-charge agreement with the non‑profit Association Psychologists for the Peoples (PXP) Sicily to provide psychological assistance to 118 emergency operators. The program aims to reduce secondary trauma, burnout and post‑traumatic stress among first‑responders who regularly face high‑impact incidents and occasional assaults.
President of the regional health service, Riccardo Castro, said, “Operators of the 118 work on the front line of emergency‑urgency and are exposed to a considerable emotional load daily.” The agreement also includes training on stress‑management techniques and support during major emergencies such as natural disasters.
