Sicily named International Wine Region of the Year 2026

Sicily has been named the International Wine Region of the Year 2026 by the American magazine Wine Enthusiast. This recognition, part of the 27th Annual Wine Star Awards, highlights the island's diverse viticultural territories, indigenous grape varieties, and the producers' focus on tradition, innovation, and sustainability.

Alessio Planeta, president of the Consorzio di Tutela vini DOC Sicilia, stated that the award is a testament to the region's evolution and an opportunity to share Sicilian wine's identity and quality globally. The region is noted for its commitment to organic agriculture and environmental protection through initiatives like the SOStain Sicilia certification.

In separate industry news, the Brunello di Montalcino Consortium reported successful promotional events in Canada. Sold-out sessions in Montreal and Toronto, held in collaboration with local monopolies like SAQ and LCBO, demonstrated strong market interest and growth potential for Brunello and Rosso di Montalcino wines.

Additionally, the Consorzio di Tutela Vini Sicilia DOC has organized a press event in Palermo for late November. The meeting, titled ‘Sicilia DOC Collection: The Island of Many Identities’, aims to showcase the diversity of the Sicilia DOC designation and its emphasis on environmental sustainability.
