Sicily named International Wine Region of the Year 2026
Overview
Sicily has been recognized as the ‘International Wine Region of the Year 2026’ by the American magazine Wine Enthusiast as part of its 27th Annual Wine Star Awards.
The award highlights the island’s viticultural diversity, including territories such as Etna, Marsala, Noto, Vittoria, and Pantelleria. It specifically notes the region’s preservation of over 70 indigenous grape varieties, such as Grillo, Catarratto, Inzolia, Nero d’Avola, and Nerello Mascalese, as well as a commitment to sustainability and organic agriculture through initiatives like the SOStain Sicilia certification.
This honor marks the second time in three years an Italian region has received the title, following Abruzzo in 2022 and Franciacorta in 2024. An official award ceremony is scheduled for January 25, 2027, in San Francisco.
