Sicily named International Wine Region of the Year 2026

Sicily has been named the ‘International Wine Region of the Year 2026’ by the US-based magazine Wine Enthusiast. The recognition was announced as part of the 27th annual Wine Star Awards.

The award highlights the island's qualitative growth in viticulture, its focus on sustainability, and the preservation of over 70 indigenous grape varieties. Notable varieties mentioned include Grillo, Catarratto, Inzolia, Nero d’Avola, and Nerello Mascalese. The magazine specifically noted the diverse territories contributing to the region's reputation, including Etna, Marsala, Noto, Vittoria, and Pantelleria.

This marks the second time in three years an Italian region has received this honor, following Franciacorta in 2024 and Abruzzo in 2022. The official award ceremony is scheduled for January 25, 2027, at the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco.
