Sicily receives over 151 million euros for strategic water infrastructure

The Italian Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport has allocated over 151 million euros to fund five strategic water infrastructure projects in Sicily. These funds, provided through the SFNISSI national financial instrument, aim to modernize the region's water networks and improve security against drought.

Key projects include:

• A 98 million euro technological renewal and upgrade of the Risalaimi water treatment plant in Misilmeri. • A 50 million euro investment for the automation, modeling, and monitoring of the regional water infrastructure. • Over 22 million euros for the Ragusa area (Ato 4) to reduce distribution losses through digitalization and smart metering. • 8 million euros for the efficiency of supply lines and water sources in the Agrigento province (Ato Ag/9). • Over 1 million euros for the optimization of the Bufardo Torrerossa pumping complex by Azienda Meridionale Acque Messina.

In addition to the national funds, implementing entities will provide over 28.2 million euros in direct co-financing to support these upgrades.
