Sicily regional government approves 2021 financial statement, accelerates account reforms

The Sicilian regional administration, led by President Renato Schifani, gave the green light to the draft law approving the 2021 Rendiconto generale. The measure follows a similar approval for the 2020 account and is part of a broader effort to normalize the region’s fiscal cycle, correct past delays and unlock roughly €264 million for upcoming budget adjustments. Economy Minister Alessandro Dagnino emphasized that the swift passage will strengthen financial credibility and free resources for investment, development and public services.

Earlier in the week, the unified sections of Italy’s Corte dei Conti delivered a partial parity judgment on the 2023 regional accounts, noting a reduced administrative deficit of about €900 million—down by more than €3.13 billion from the previous year. The auditors highlighted improvements such as reforms of regional management, progress on waste‑to‑energy projects, increased investment spending and higher revenues from building bonuses, PNRR funds and European allocations. Both actions signal the continued trajectory of fiscal consolidation pursued by the Schifani government.
