Sicily regional budget variation allocates funds for local infrastructure and services

The Sicilian Regional Assembly has approved a budget variation containing significant allocations for various territorial needs. Key investments include approximately 2.8 million euros for Monreale, covering the restoration of the San Martino delle Scale Abbey, school improvements, road maintenance, and reforestation efforts following summer fires. In Giarre, over 1 million euros are designated for school facilities, urban redevelopment, and school transport.

Religious heritage also receives substantial funding, with over 2 million euros allocated to various churches in the province of Ragusa, including the convent of the Frati Minori Cappuccini and the Madonna delle Lacrime parish. However, the distribution has sparked political debate. The Mayor of Blufi and members of the opposition have criticized the allocation method, alleging that 58 municipalities were excluded and that funds were distributed in a way that favors specific political interests and religious institutions.

Economic support measures include 2 million euros for the Irca to fund Sicilian artisan businesses through low-interest loans for inventory management. Additionally, the regional budget includes provisions for road maintenance in the Appianese and Bassa Comasca regions, as well as hydraulic safety works for the Rio Levesa to mitigate flood risks.
