Sicily reintroduces ‘straccia bollo’ tax amnesty measure

The Sicilian Regional Government has reintroduced the ‘straccia bollo’ measure, allowing taxpayers to regularize unpaid debts owed up to December 31, 2025, without incurring penalties or interest. The program covers car taxes, government concession taxes, and other regional property revenues.

To benefit from this amnesty, taxpayers must complete all payments and necessary formalities by October 31, 2026. The measure, published in the Official Gazette of the Sicilian Region on August 14, follows national budget laws that grant regions the autonomy to manage their own facilitated revenue collection processes.

The program is not yet active. Citizens and economic operators must wait for an implementing decree from the Regional Assessor for the Economy, which is currently being prepared. Once issued, this decree will define the specific operational procedures and methods for submitting applications.

Regional President Renato Schifani stated that the decision to repeat the measure was driven by the success of previous iterations, aiming to help families settle their positions spontaneously. Regional Assessor Alessandro Dagnino noted that the initiative seeks to assist taxpayers while simultaneously improving the region's collection capacity.
