Sicily sees surge in sports with Baroque Race and karting championship

The Baroque Race 2026, a 24‑kilometre running event that traverses the UNESCO‑listed baroque towns of Ragusa, Modica and Scicli, attracted close to 600 participants. Sebastiano Foti (Catania Running Club) won the men's race in 1 h 28 min 14 s, while Carolina Piazza Laneri claimed the women's title in 1 h 49 min 06 s. Including the shorter 10.2 km Baroque Sprint, a total of 447 athletes completed the two races, and the event received backing from local municipalities and various partners. The organizers announced the next race, the Filippide 2026 marathon, to be held in Chiaramonte Gulfi.

In Buseto Palizzolo, the third round of the Trofeo Nazionale Circuiti Cittadini 2026 took place on a temporary city circuit. The karting meet, overseen by PKS Italia Motorsport and Karting Sicilia, drew drivers from across Sicily. Andrea Adragna secured victory in the 125 KZ2 class, and Gaspare Milotta won the 100 Amateur category. Local competitors also featured prominently, with several podium finishes. The event highlighted the popularity of bringing karting into urban centres and will continue with a fourth round in Castiglione dei Pepoli.
